Info just emailed to team captains:
  1. Some games in need of re-scheduling (rainouts or tourney conflicts) will be moved to Meenans Cove in Quispamsis - either June 20 or July 11, with 1:30 or 4:30 start times.
  2. Batter's boxes at Walter Jewett: Prior to this season, the town installed a heavy rubber mat below the batter's boxes. The idea is that the dirt can only be dug out so much, avoiding a deep rut (you people know who you are!!) that others could trip in. The down side as we've seen a couple of times is that someone does dig down to the rubber... if it's wet, hard plastic cleats on a rubber mat, I'm not sure it's a good combo. Anyway, if it does get down that deep, try to kick a little dirt back in. There is also a pile of infield mix somewhere around the port-a-potty if needed.
  3. City info line: The last rainy Friday night we had, it came to Frank's attention that the City can and will close the Memorial hardball field, without closing the softball field. (I suppose they're quicker to close the hardball field in case there are teams from out of town playing agains the Alpines...) Remind your guys to listen for Memorial softball on the City recording.
  4. Safety bags: Yes, the City has been reminded that we'd like to have anchors for our safety bags, because without anchors... they're not all that safe. Considering there are still sprinkler heads showing on Allison Grounds, I'm guessing anchors are still at the bottom of the list. If you've got removable anchors, try to use them when you can.
  5. ASA-approved bats: As of this year, ASA makes no provision for "grandfathered" bats. (ie a bat that was legal, but is no longer legal under their new testing system.) As this is our bat approval system, any bats that are no longer legal cannot be used during our games. (a player from KVW has one Easton that can no longer be used.) A bat can be on this non-approved list even if it has a proper stamp! If you have any questions, please refer to the ASA guidelines or talk to myself.

the new standards. (Even on older bats, if they're on the illegal list, they're not acceptable next season.)

Have a great year,

Vance Crozier
